Challenges:
Rockcliffe Parkway
Ottawa, ON, Canada
The city of Ottawa proposed building a pathway to connect a network of nature trails with the downtown core and highlight the beauty of the Ottawa River
THE PROBLEM
The proposed cantilever design of the pathway required rigid structural support since piles would be exposed up to 4m and installed through loose fill up to 12m. EBS Geostructural installed 293 micropiles over a steep slope to a riverbank using equipment that was customized for the project. All of this was executed within a confined working area.
WHY EBS WAS CHOSEN FOR THIS PROJECT
Single source solution – working closely with the client, general contractor, geotechnical and structural engineers to design-build the micropiles for the Ottawa Rockcliffe Pathway
Specialty drilling equipment required to minimize working footprint
Restricted access – EBS had to complete the project from one road lane width to maintain traffic during construction of the project
Construction of the pathway in an environmentally sensitive area required the minimization of vibrations and the control and containment of spoils during drilling
EBS worked with an accelerated schedule to complete construction of the micropiles
Ability to work with the job specific safety challenges and complete the project with zero accidents and incidents
Total Number of Micropiles: 293
