LRT Traction Power Substation

Waterloo, ON, Canada

GrandLinq Contractors required a deep foundation system to support the traction power substation systems of the new LRT ION. The 13 substations weighed approximately 2900 kN each and came as one unit. Helical pile installations for each site were completed in one-day and took place across the Region of Waterloo in varying soil conditions

The units were originally designed to be supported on caissons but were redesigned with helical piles to accommodate a condensed construction schedule and immediate loading requirements. In total, the helical pile deep foundation systems saved the client 30 days.
