A proposed 55,000 square foot Cineplex movie theatre in Kitchener, ON was to be built and EBS was awarded the project to support highly loaded columns in the structure. In addition to compression loads, the columns also had to resist uplift loads. Challenges included compacted, frozen construction debris from a previously demolished structure in the upper layer of soil and cobbles and boulders which made installation of test piles difficult. Pre-drilling proved beneficial and allowed the test piles to advance beyond the fill layer.
