South End Library

Location
Sudbury, Ontario

A new South End Library needed to be constructed after the existing library was deemed structurally unsound. The proposed site had loose fill over steep sloping bedrock which made caissons or driven pile installation difficult. EBS installed specially designed micropiles to guarantee embedment into the sloping bedrock. The project consisted of a hybrid solution using conventional foundations where rock was exposed and micropiles in the remaining locations.

Compression Load: 1250kN (281 kips)
Total Length of Micropile: 8 to 17 metres
Embedment Depth into Bedrock: 3 metres
Total Number of Micropiles:  32
