A quick mobilization, poor soil conditions, and tight access created challenges, but the EBS Geostructural team tackled the issues head-on.

To provide a community space accessible to all and meet upcoming accessibility guidelines, the municipality of Meaford had to address their library. After analyzing their options, the decision was made to renovate the former Foodland location.

During interior slab demolition, the remains of a hotel destroyed by fire in 1960 were discovered. The poor soil and fill conditions required a deep foundation to support the structural alterations.  Van Horne contacted EBS Geostructural to design and install a helical pile system to retrofit the existing foundations.

Structural drawings were created by our in-house design team, which allowed EBS to mobilize within two weeks. Variable site conditions required modification to some of the pile caps.  With the help of the EBS in-house design team, we created, approved, and implemented these design changes to keep the project progressing.

The site had the additional challenge of limited access.  With helical pile installation required on the interior and exterior of the existing structure. Our tight access equipment allowed us to install within the structure and use only the sidewalks' space outside
