Windsor Riverfront Retention Basin

Windsor, Ontario

A large holding tank for sanitary and storm water was to be constructed to prevent untreated sewage from entering the Detroit River after a heavy rainfall. This holding tank was to be built below the water table. The deep foundation system to support this retention basin needed to resist tension and compression loads depending on the sewage level in the tank. Cased micropiles were installed 33.5 meters through soft clay and embedded 5.0 meters into bedrock to resist the compression or tension loads of the tank.
